Small and Mid-Sized Businesses Need Legal Counsel

Carlos J. Reyes, Esq. - Reyes Law Group

Legal counsel is needed now more than ever!

Why is legal counsel so important for small to mid-sized businesses? If you own and operate a small or mid-sized company in today’s ever complicated business world, and you’re actually looking to earn a profit, you need to navigate the structural, organizational and human elements of your business.  Failing to do so, entrepreneurs and business owners typically find themselves making decisions “off the cuff”. Not surprisingly, many times this will lead to disastrous financial consequences.  The failure to appreciate the significance of these elements is dangerous, meaning, governance documents not properly prepared and maintained, employee concerns going unheeded, customer written complaints left unanswered, unread contracts signed, and more!  All warning signs that can lead to serious legal implications, complications, and financial injury.  In post-scripts to these situations, the one glaring, common theme you’ll find are business owners who, for fear of the expense, do not contact a lawyer for legal counsel. Unfortunately, they simply do nothing, react impulsively, sign without knowledge, ignore the potential consequences, and generally fail to heed the obvious warning signs.  Not surprisingly, far too often they or their companies pay a steep price for these legal oversights later!  (Sort of like the old Fram auto filter commercials where they point out the cost of being proactive vs. reactive by saying, … “pay me now or pay me later!” … at a presumably more expensive cost later!)

In the end, there can be no denying – practically everything your business does has legal implications.  If you own your own company, you typically need legal counsel to help you or your company review and protect your interests when it comes to, among other things:

  • agreements and contracts;
  • business arrangements you enter into;
  • labor and employment issues you routinely confront;
  • business operations issues that challenge you;
  • real estate concerns (buying or leasing) that impact where and how you operate; and
  • litigation threats or realties you often grapple with daily.

To navigate these challenges in modern America, you need legal counsel that knows you, your business, and serves as the “Quarterback” for your array of legal concerns so you can focus on what you do best and your core functions – running your business!

Today, more than ever, you need an experienced legal team that knows business, can truly offer experienced “advice & counsel,” and knows how to handle strategies, tactics, and procedural rules for navigating both transactional and litigation matters.  Moreover, with this comes the experience of knowing when to negotiate and settle a matter since all too often, that’s the most prudent solution to the problem.  The key, of course, is to implement a business arrangement that provides an affordable, predictable monthly cost that will fit into your budget or an hourly arrangement that is viable!  If you have a growing company frequently needing “advice & counsel” – this is YOU!  Ask me about the RLG Outside Counsel Program – we can help you meet the needs of your growing company, while also allowing you to budget your legal expense.  Having the array of business-centric legal services we offer clients to help them deal with their legal challenges is more important than ever!  When we say, we “defend your property, and preserve your rights” – we mean it!
