A Good Lawyer Knows the Law, A Great Lawyer Knows the Judge

Every month at the Reyes Law Group, we seek to provide information that is valuable and helpful to our clients. This month, we are looking at the public perception of how lawyers operate. We are shedding some light on a seemingly small fact that helps separate a good lawyer from a great, successful lawyer – the kind of lawyer you should work with.

Clients are aware that lawyers interact with each other during the course of their cases. For lawyers, understanding they must continually further their education and knowledge of their legal community is necessary in order to improve their practice. Most clients know that it is important to find a lawyer who has a thorough knowledge of their legal practice area – but few clients have considered how important it is to find a lawyer who has the experience and knowledge in the Courtroom of local Judges.

Knowing local Judges and how they run their Courtroom can be key factors in getting a case ruled in your client’s favor.  How Judges run their courtroom varies from Judge to Judge, and understanding a Judge’s preferences are important. Knowing the temperament of a Judge, along with how they evaluate and decide cases, is hugely beneficial.

A lawyer’s experience before a specific Judge is invaluable to a client in getting a positive resolution. Some Judges are quick to decide, some take their time, some will take it under advisement. Knowing what to expect in a case means more than just knowing the typical process. It’s no joke when we say that a good lawyer knows the law and a great lawyer knows the Judge.

In the past, some have used that phrase dismissively to imply some sort of illegal connection between lawyer and Judge. That is obviously not the case. Rather, when a great lawyer knows a Judge, they know how the Judge prefers to hear evidence, how they run their courtroom, their background and preferences, and their historical rulings with specific issues. At Reyes Law Group you can rely on a legal staff that has spent years building a noteworthy reputation in Courtrooms throughout the State of Florida.
