Serving the Law, Our Clients, and the Community

Serving the law our clients and the community

The importance of Community Involvement

I have been fortunate to have played a role in many community groups and organizations over the years.  From Kids Voting, to the Latin and Fort Lauderdale Chambers of Commerce, to Broward Partnership for the Homeless. I also had the privilege of a Governor appointing me to the Board of Commissioners of the Memorial Healthcare System.  Each have given me the opportunity to leave a mark on the organization, and more importantly, on the people and in some instances, organizations and companies they serve.  Even more surprisingly, they have each left an imprint on my life.  Today, my main focus has been assisting the clinic, “Luz Del Mundo (Light of the World), Inc.”  The clinic was established in 1989 by the late Dr. Erwin M. Vasquez, who along with other community leaders and volunteers, were looking to provide free essential health care and preventative medical services to the disadvantaged residents of Broward County.

My role with the Light of the World Clinic
While I have been on the Clinic’s board for many years wearing various hats, today, I serve as the Clinic’s Interim CEO.  With the hands-on direction provided by the Executive Director, Sandy Lozano, Medical Director Ricardo Reyes (no direct relation, but hand-picked by Dr. Vasquez to succeed him in that role), the continued commitment and heartfelt support from Elaine Vasquez, and “Dr. V” from above, the clinic focuses its services on children and their families who are generally without insurance or financial resources to obtain the proper health care. In any given year, the clinic serves thousands of disadvantaged indigent, low-income middle class and medically underserved men, women and children in Broward County. This is accomplished by our volunteer doctors, specialists and medical professionals.

Why I decided to get involved with Light of the World Clinic
I became fast friends with Dr. Vasquez and his wife, Elaine Vasquez and they invited me on to the board.  Over the years, our friendship grew and our involvement with the Clinic evolved and matured as the healthcare needs of the indigent in the community became ever more pressing.

How Reyes Law Group has contributed to my success with Light of the World Clinic
Reyes Law Group is very supportive of the clinic and the community.  The firm’s sponsorship of the clinic’s now annual Gala, and my personal commitment to the Clinic continues to help us achieve our firm and personal mission statement of “leaving people better off than when we find them”.  The firm’s focus on serving the community means continued service to this organization and others in the community is part of our growing firm’s “DNA.”

If you are thinking about getting involved in the community, here’s my advice…
Find an organization that is meaningful to you and our community.  If it tugs at your heart, involves good people, and can make a difference in the lives of people in our South Florida community and beyond, … then get involved! Whether as a board member or volunteer, you can make a difference.  Help make South Florida a continuing better place to live!

Over the firm’s first 10 years, Reyes Law Group has closed over $100M in commercial closings, representing buyers and sellers in contract negotiations, due diligence, and the related title review and policy issuance related to closings. In litigation, the firm has commercial litigation experience focused on prosecuting or defending claims such as breach of contracts, partition actions, trade secret violations, and breach of non-competes. However, our firm’s MAIN FOCUS is assisting asset and loan portfolio managers, investors and private lenders with a “ 4-PILLAR APPROACH” to the legal challenges they face with non-performing assets: 1) LOAN WORKOUTS; 2) COMMERCIAL FORECLOSURES (across the State of Florida); 3) COMMERCIAL EVICTIONS; and 4) REO COMMERCIAL CLOSINGS.30+ years’ legal experience means - WE CAN HELP!
